Art Practical Craftwork Paper - Tips and deadlines

The practical art exam papers will be available to students tomorrow the 8th of April. You will be contacted tomorrow about collecting your exam papers.

Still Life- 2.5 hours

You will be getting the paper for your still life practical exam and in this there will be five descriptive passages. You should read each passage and underline any objects that you come across. You will then select the passage with the objects that you are most interested in. You should have at least 3 objects in your still life, and you should practice drawing these as much as possible prior to the exam. Practice drawing the objects in different arrangements and using different media (pencil, charcoal, pastels, paint..). Decide on the media that you will be using for your exam.

Craft- Posters - 5 hours

There are many different sections in the craft paper, find the poster section (5hours). There will be three titles/themes for your poster. Select the one that interests you most and straight away start researching plenty of ideas and imagery. On the internet look up similar posters (you may wish to include one of these in your preparation sheet), these should inspire you and get you thinking. Remember you want to create a poster that is eye catching, interesting and creative. So don't stick to your first idea, explore many ideas and possibilities!!

Preparation Sheet

You don't get any marks for this sheet however it is still very important to put a good sheet forward that contains loads of visual information and ideas. Remember this is the only thing that you can work from in the exam. If your prep sheet is weak and has little information on it then it will be very hard for you to create a poster from this in the exam. See the "Leaving Cert Examples page" on the blog for ideas/ and the way a prep sheet should look.(Must be A2 in size and can be any colour)

It should include;
Found Images from the internet/magazines/ books... These should be cut out neatly and it can be effective to put a boarder on these for beter presentation.
Sketches and drawings in different media (pencil, paint, charcoal, pastel..)
Everything should be labeled and explained (your ideas, use of media, techniques for the poster, poster concept, use of colour, layout, art and design elements....)

This needs to be almost finished for Monday's Class the 22nd of April. We will be working from your preparations sheets to generate ideas for your poster and preliminary sheet in this class.

Preliminary sheet and Poster

You will need to Practice your Poster and Preliminary sheet over the Easter holidays. Practice as many different layouts and use a lot of different techniques and materials. Experiment!! Bring all of this experimental work to Mondays Class on the 22nd of April.

Best of luck with it guys!!
